[I hope you can read this entry from start to finish...don''t just skim through the pictures :p]
Warning: You might experience some craft overdose. This is the motherload of all crafty stuff.
I've been featuring yarn stores in my blog to help crocheters out there find places where they can get their yarn supply. I'm not into other crafts and don't share much about craft stores and the other stuff they sell. This one is an exception though and is worth telling about. I don't know if this is an exclusive scoop, but if anyone of you is into crafts, this blog might just be your manna from heaven (yes, I'm that boastful about it).
Do you know Craft World? They used to have branches in SM Megamall, Market! Market!, Robinson's Galleria, and Festival Mall. It's actually quite sad that with all this renewed appreciation for crafts and handmade stuff, especially among young people, this "institution" is no longer serving the needs of crafters like us in malls.
So one good question to ask is, "Where did all the stuff from all those branches go?"
They all went here.
It's literally a garage sale. I didn't even know it was only one tricycle ride from my house. Craft World has had this factory outlet for ages. The owner has migrated abroad and has (sadly) closed her business. The property itself is on the market, so once this place is sold, we would all have to say goodbye to it. Everything must go. And I'm about to show you what they have. You won't believe how low the prices of the materials are. This sale will blow you away :)
Click the link to see what they have.
They are selling cords in packs. Each pack is only P20 and it already contains 4 sets! There are shiny shimmery ones and plain ones. There could be so many uses for these.
They also sell cotton thread. The kind you use when you cross-stitch or make bracelets. A pack of cotton thread contains 10 sets and only costs P10! There are also packs containing more than 10 sets that also cost P10. They also have perle cotton thread. A pack has 4 balls and costs only P20. That is practically free considering a ball of perle cotton can go for P50-60. Boo yeah!
There are so many craft materials and tools.
There are stencil cremes (see above, bottom left) that used to sell for P200 a piece. Now, they're selling it for P20! Whut! There are packs of glass beads (bottom middle) selling for only P10/pack (3 bottles/pack) and air dry enamel for glass and tile for only P30/pack (4 bottles/pack).
Crafty hobbies like cross-stitching, ceramic painting and scrapbooking are covered.
Cross-stitch sets (inlclusive of pattern, cloth, and thread) are now selling for only P50. They used to sell for P200. Special paper/board useful for scrapbooking or other decorative paper-folding projects you have in mind are selling only for P3/pc. Beads are selling for P5/pack.
A pack of wooden paintbrushes contain 9 pieces and is selling for only P15/pack. I don't know the use of some tools being sold like this "Easy Grid" piece (I think this one is for parchment craft) but it used to sell for P1,200. And now it's only P200. Wow. I also saw a perforating tool originally priced at P600. It's now down to P100.
There are also special needles on sale! Below you can see Susan Bates knitting needles for only P25 and needles for tatting at P10/set of 3.
And of course, they also have craft books and magazines. Loads of them! All books are 80% off!
Magazines on this rack are packed. Each pack is selling for only P50. A pack may contain 4-5 magazines.
There were so many stuff in this garage sale that I wasn't able to document. And there's also another room where things have not been sorted out for sale.
I had mixed feelings about this garage sale. On the one hand, I got all jumpy, drooly, and excited about the unbelievably cheap yarn, materials, tools, magazines, and books. On the other though, I felt quite sad. I'm sure at one point, the owner must have been like us, someone who's passionate about creating beautiful work and sharing it with others - and built a business out of that passion. I don't know the story behind Craft World closing. Maybe the owner's children didn't share the same passion for crafts. Maybe not enough people appreciate stores like this anymore. Maybe the internet gave better, faster, and cheaper options. Nothing beats the experience though of being in a store and seeing and holding the tools that create and challenge our imagination.
I just have a favor to ask if you decide to go to this place. When you go here, buy those things for something you will make for yourself or to help you create more handmade products. Don't buy it because it's cheap and you will only sell it later online at a higher price. Buy it also for someone who will have better use for these things. This is a great chance for craft materials to be available to anyone. This time, you won't be worrying about any budget. Your P100 will go a long way.
This will be our final tribute to Craft World and to a legacy of encouraging others to be creative and to be imaginative enough to make something uniquely theirs, and for always reminding us that it feels better to make something by yourself than to buy it ready-made. It may take more work and cost more, but it's worth it.
THANK YOU CRAFT WORLD!!! You're definitely leaving us with a bang!

ReplyDeleteHaha, ako rin noh! Parang every saturday nga, nandito na ako sa store na 'to kasi nakakapanghinayang kung di bilhin yung mga stuff nila. Punta ka soon!
DeleteOh hell. I used to pass there all the time!
ReplyDeleteMe I'm thinking of not selling at a higher price. But buying so that others who wont be able to go will have a chance to get it from me later.
Yeah! A little profit won't hurt though so you can get something out of it as well. I think I had the same reaction as you. I live near this store and it was just there all along! :)
DeleteOhhhhh...how sad that the business closed! :( I used to raid them regularly, for my knitting yarns. I have scheduled a trip for this Saturday, because this is too good an opportunity to pass up; I crochet, cross-stitch, and knit, so this is a wonderful thing.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing!
Hallloo!!! How was your trip to Craft World? :)

ReplyDeleteI can’t imagine focusing long enough to research; much less write this kind of article. You’ve outdone yourself with this material. This is great content. Mobile Car Repairs Berkshire
